革製品の材料として既に使われている「イールスキン」は「ヌタウナギ」の革で、普通のウナギとは完全に別種。
というか狭義では魚類ですらない。
蒲焼きで食べてる皮を想像してたとしたら、全然別物だ。これはニュースのミスリード。
でもって、イギリスでウナギの人気がないってのは、世界一不味いイギリス料理だから。ゼリー寄せとか、食えたもんじゃない……

AFPの日本語版の誤訳でヌタウナギだとすると
かつて英ロンドンの労働者階級向け定番料理の素材だったウナギに
AFP自体がウナギとヌタウナギを取り違えてたとすると
「世界中の人がウナギを食べているから、(皮は)天然の副産物だ。こんなふうに再利用できて非常にうれしい」と話した。
ってっ部分がおかしくなるから、やっぱりウナギ(ヨーロッパウナギ)なんじゃないのって気がする。

誤訳と言うか「eel skin」が厳密にはeelから作られていないことなんかは知らないだけなんじゃないかな、
